As we all look forward to the festive season, it is important to acknowledge the incredible dedication and commitment shown by those working in health at a time where staffing numbers are critically low and the workload is incredibly demanding. I thank you all for everything that you are doing to improve outcomes for everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand.
This year we’ve commented that it’s easy at times of high workload and with constraints on training budgets, to compromise on the quality of training. Despite the workload, demand for resuscitation provider courses and instructor training is high and learner feedback remains universally positive.
In September, it was amazing to be able to reconnect with those that could join us at NZ Resus 2022, our first face-to-face meeting for a number of years. The quality of the scientific programme and the enthusiasm shown by all those involved was inspiring.
This year, we released our refreshed NLS programme offering not only greater flexibility and the opportunity for a broader learner audience but also new instructor resources to aid in the standardisation of the programme.
Our ability to engage with key stakeholders has been strengthened with the launch of the new Council website. It is now a great tool ensuring an enhanced user experience and greater access to our guidelines. This year our participation in World Restart a Heart Day and other social media activities has increased both followers and engagement, across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
We were also all incredibly saddened at the passing of our former chair, colleague and friend Richard Aickin earlier this year. During his time as Chair of the Council, our organisation developed and matured significantly. His gentle thoughtfulness, integrity and kindness has left a lasting impression on all of us. I continue to miss him tremendously.
Finally I’d like to acknowledge the work of the Council administration team who have diligently supported the national teaching curriculum activities, made a major contribution to organising NZ Resus 2022, and supported Councillors, stakeholders and others. It is incredibly humbling to work alongside a team of such talented individuals.
Looking forward, 2023 has a number of exciting projects and opportunities. I’m confident that we can continue to build on the all that we have achieved until now.
I wish you all the best as we head into the Christmas and New Year break. Take care of yourselves, your whānau and your friends and enjoy the summer.
